The skin is subject to a wide variety of growths, tumors, infections and cancers which may require surgical treatment and intervention. Most dermatologic surgeries are done in the office under local anesthesia and do not involve muscle, tendons, bones or large blood vessels and nerves and thus are safe and relatively painless. The most common lesions treated are cysts, tumors of fatty tissue (lipomas), skin tags, warts, nevi and growths related to lipid glands, sweat glands, hair follicles and other structures in the skin (small blood vessels and nerves). Infections of the skin may sometimes need to be surgically incised and drained. Skin cancers are subject to a wide variety of different treatments (destructions, excisions and Mohs surgery). All providers at Carson Dermatology have experience and training in the surgical treatment of these skin and nail conditions.
